About the Library

Designed by internationally-acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie, the library is truly a work of art. The five-story triangular building, adjacent rectangular administrative wing, and ovoid atrium are enclosed by a crescent-shaped, walkable wall of glass. Within the crescent are shops, spiraling fireplaces, and reading galleries overlooking the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. The roof-top garden offers a stunning 360° view of the Salt Lake Valley.

In addition to being a beautiful building, the library is all the more special to Kate and Alex because of the large role Alex’s mother, Anne, played in managing its construction. A librarian all her life, Anne worked tirelessly with architects and contractors for many years to ensure the building’s successful completion. An experience that had the odd side effect of turning her into a connoisseur of poured concrete. To this day, she can sometimes be caught wandering some of the world’s finest museums studying their foundation and retaining walls.

When

The ceremony will begin just before sunset, at 5:30 pm on February 22nd 2015. Reception to immediately follow.
